    Default how much fluid?

    how much fluid normaly goes back in a 4L60 in a 98 z71 after a pan drop and filter change? thanks

    Dump 4qts in to start, then check. It could need as much as 2 more qts.

    What retired said should be right - the extra is based on your dipstick as long as it is reliable. The dipstick in my 4L60-E is too long or something.. idk. when i had it at the right dipstick level, there wasnt enough fluid for the truck to even move. Mine is currently around 3 Quarts over 'full'. Hope you have better luck!

    According to the Haynes manual, you should need at least 4 quarts. I'd say 4-6 should do ya. I wanna say that if you drain the torque converter you need more like 10 quarts to do the job, but that's ONLY if you drain the torque converter.

    As Retired stated, add 4 qts, warm up and shift to different gears holding brake, until operating Temp, check stick and add as needed, which should be almost another 2 qts. Then test short trip and see what reads on the Stick.......

    thanks for all the help guys. i checked it this morning after putting one gal. in after the change and it looks good when cold, but ill take a look at it when i get to work.
