Default replacing engine in 00 Z71 thinking of ls2

I have a 2000 Chevy Z71 with about 180k on it. i will be replacing the engine soon and was wondering since the original 5.3 is in the ls family, if the ls2 or ls3 would bolt in without having to replace the computer. if anyone knows the answer, please let me know.

you don't need to replace the computer but it's not bolt in and go. you will need to extend the harness for the cam sensor as it's moved to the front of the engine. you will need to change you injector plugs or get adaptor's to run the ls2 injector's truck and car injector's are not the same. you also need to run the ls2 front engine cover. the swaps not hard but you need to be aware of this ahead of time so your not waiting on part's.

    Default Thanks

Thanks to all who replied. I was afraid of spending the money on something requiring too many mods. I will not be selling my 5.3, I'm going to rebuild it for a different truck i have

go to the dealership, they should have Gm Performance crate engine that you just need to swap the components and drop in the new engine. I know for the vortec 350 you can get a stroker and just switch over all the gear and go, even the stock manifolds work with the stroker

thats cool, best of luck on the build, try ls1dto.com, & ls1tech.com, theres engines on both of these sites, alot cheaper then gm would be! plus some people could help u on modding it!
