I have a 89 GMC Bur abd the sterring colum is well worn out I want to replace it with a newer model. Can I go out to at least a 96 replacement? I am not on here all the time but I can be reached at mcrich01@ embarqmail.com.......... Thanks

I am not sure if the steering column can be directly swapped with a 96. My guess is not becasue the 1996 models came with the vortec motors which have a lot more stuff under the hood. Look here for a direct replacement.

I'd guess that you could locate one from a '89 thru '99 and not have much of a problem. If you don't need all the wiring, it shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure when they started putting the "air bag" in the wheel, but you might want to get one prior to the "air bag". Good luck!

I "think" the air bags started in '95. My guess would be '94 and earlier would be your best bet.
