Default 2001 Brake controller install *Help*

Hello, I've tried to research this before posting, but was unable to find any info in my search results. However, I did find out in my RPO codes that I have 3.73 gears (code GT4) and I have the HD towing package (code Z82). My understanding is with the HD package I should have an underdash plug-in module for brake controller. I’ve looked under the dash and could not find a place for the harness. I did notice one port, but I think its for the OBDII scanner, am I wrong? Does any body have an images of where the harness should plug in to. I haven't purchased the controller or harness yet, I want to make sure I do have a plug-and-play option on my vehicle.

    Thanks in advance.

The port you would plug the harness into is on the drivers side floor in the upper left corner. There is usually a removable cover on it. As far as a plug-and-play controller, look at the Tekonsha Prodigy. You can buy the vehicle specific harness for it so no wire splicing is required. You can even move it from one vehicle to another in a snap!

Yep, I have a 2002 with all the tow features as your 2001 and dwill3015 is right, use the controller company he's mentioned, I have used these for years now and have no problems what so ever, Welcome and great towing....

OK, I stopped by an RV shop today and picked up the Prodigy unit and harness that was suggested. I asked the sales guy to come out and show me where it hooks up. He stuck his head under the driver side dash and could find anything either. He said it might be under the kick panel below my steering column. With the RPO code Z82, I should have the HD towing package correct? I'm trying to avoid hardwiring in the controler.

    Thanks again

I have a 2001 Suburban w/tow package and the the panel w/cover that mine plugs into is on the floor to the left of the brake pedal with a cover on it and a hexagon looking plastic shaft sticking out of the middle that you have to untwist to remove the cover. If you still are unsure, i will take a picture of it tonight and post it on here for you.

Awesome!! I found it, or I should say "I found them" I was looking for 1 plug, after removing the cover; I noticed about a dozen of them. The underside of the cover has a map. Second plug from the top says: (Trailer 6-way Brown). I'll get started on it tonight. I appreciate everybody’s help. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Thanks again!

Piece of cake!! The controller install was a snap (literally) I just snapped the harness on one end and the controller on the other.

    Thanks again.
