Thought I'd ask the question; How many of you have and use a CB radio or Radio Scanner in your ride?
List your make, model and setup. Also any interesting stories on how they have helped you.
I use a Uniden PC68LTW CB radio with dual Wilson 4' fiberglass antennas. I use it almost daily to check for traffic and speed trap locations. Lots of great guys and gals on line always willing to offer information. Also great to talk to people from all over North America, takes time to get used to all the different accents though.
Also have a Uniden BC296 Digital Radio Scanner installed. It's surprising to hear what the police have to deal with around the city. My favorite place to go is to the airport with the kids and listen to the conversations between air traffic control and pilots. Not sure who enjoys it more me or the kids.
Lets here it if you gotem!

Not a CB radio, but had a radio for the fire department. I would always have it on scan to see what was happening in the county (we had it set up with all the fire department, police, and EMS frequencies as well as state emergency frequencies, mutual aid, etc etc). It was always nice to know what was going on where. On road trips I would get lucky enough, once in a while, to drop on a frequency that was being used by an emergency response department.
I've toyed with the idea of getting a CB radio either in the truck or mustang. Because I think the Suburban would be used more for road trips and there's enough room to put a rack of radios in that thing I think it will be stuck in there. Only time will tell!
Look forward to hearing what everyone else uses and maybe getting a few tips.

I have a Cobra CB with a Wilson 5k whip. I'm getting ready to upgrade the radio to something that will scan channels for me without me doing it manually. I've also been looking into mobile 2m radios too.

I have a Cobra 19+ that can be move from vehicle to vehicle with a magnetic 4' steel ant.
A hand held Cobra for use when out of the vehicle.
A Cobra 40 with SSR in the Suburban with a 6' fiberglass ant.
And a Uniden remote with a 4' fiberglass in my Tacoma.
The Tacoma also has a programable Bearcat scanner for Police/Fire/weather. With digital trunking being used now the scanner doesnt pick-up as much as it used to.
None of the radios ever really helped me, I mostly use them for communication when trail running or to amuse me while on a road trip.

Look at CB shops and truck stops. When I was looking for my Cobra 40 SSR I had to drive about 50 miles to a truck stop to find one.
Recently I found a CB tune/repair shop in the area that sells radios, CB, HAM, basiclly any type you want, it's a one man operation so he doesnt have a lot of stock on hand but he can order anything I want and he can do custom tuning and modifications to improve the in put/out put.
