What I do with my block heater cord is I don't put it through the grill rather I route it through to the opening just beside where the license plate is on the bumper, its just long enough to plug in an extension cord and I put it back into the opening inside the bumper when I don't have it plugged in so isn't exposed to all of the salt and water and crap that comes flying up off of the winter roads. But most importantly make sure whatever you do with your block heater cord make sure it isn't near any moving pieces in your engine or excessive heat. I don't like to have a cord under the hood especially since two winters ago when a guy was doing that at work and I guess over time putting his hood down on the cord damaged it enough for it to create short and burning the truck down in the parking lot. Always make sure the extension cord and your block heater cord are in good condition, or you might come out to see a real "hot" truck
