Tune-up / Distibutor Cap

Hey guys, I'm new to the site but definately not new to the Suburban lifestyle, as I'm currently on my third 'burb. This one's a 1999 3/4-ton 4x4 with the 7.4 L engine. I'm getting ready for a tune-up (plugs, wires, distibutor cap and rotor) basic stuff really, but I would appreciate any helpful hints on actually reaching and removing the distributor cap, as this engine bay is a little more cramped than either my '86 or '89. Thanks.

Ya, but my solving this dilemma was extremely easy - I drove it to the shop, tossed them the keys, and had them fix it!

Well, most of it... I kept the wires and plugs for myself... I've yet to do that!

Get yourself some good fender covers to keep the paint from getting mared, scratched up. Do NOT wear a belt or pants with a lot of snaps, see first sentence. You can get yourself a good 2 step step ladder, some use the small platforms from side to side(plank system for painting, hanging things, home improvement....) this way you have more surface to stand on. Change each one, one at a time, don't rush, have a service manual handy for reference and be careful...If you have a lift, easier to change plugs from underneath......It's not easy, but can be done, take your time, this is not a game with a game clock, unless this is your daily driver.......

This is the location of the cap location analogbuck is referring to, for those that don't know what's being discussed. Those light gray 'fingers' are the plugs on top of the distributor.

Thanks for the replies y'all. Being this is my daily driver I couldn't afford anymore downtime, so I rented one of those monkeys SPRINGTHING was talking about (just don't tell my mechanic I called him that!). Anyways, thanks again and adios for now....
