i actually did this same thing to my air box. me and my buddy just started hacking away at it. it does help. the only thing i didnt do is put a screen in there. i just left it wide open. i had a few issues with off roading but that was my fault for not thinking ahead and placing in a filter/screen. i would recomend this mod if you dont want the sound or even if you just dont want a CAI. or if your truck is under warrenty. i dont know what the dealer would say to a hacked up airbox.

Looks like a cool and effective mod, cheap too. I think I may do it. Definitely use a screen of some sort!

very simular to the deck plate mod, i was trying to figure out a way to do this to my Sierra. i have it done to my Tacoma & i noticed after a few weeks of driving 2-3 mpg gain & just a bit more power with a vaccuum sound to it, great mod! there just isnt enough room with our sierras or silverados air boxes for this!

u wouldnt really need a screen, as long as the filter catches it. a screen wouldnt hurt though! i dont really take my gmc off roading too much, i think im just going to cut the hole out!

The hole in the air box sounds like a good idea. I went out, took my air box out, and someone beat me to it. There isn't only one hole in the box, but two. They put one hole in the front, and one hole in the back. The only thing I see wrong with it, is there are no screens on the holes. Even though there IS an air filter there, I am putting some sort of filters on the new holes.
