Question Trailer wire diagram appears upside down

I'm helping a friend get his truck wired for a 7-pole round socket. He purchased a boat+trailer a while back. Unfortunately, I have the truck, my friend is in Mexico and the boat/trailer and previous owner are in California. The previous boat owner pulled the boat with a 2002 Tahoe. He has a GM installed 7-pole socket with the hookup diagram casted on the socket cover plate. Here is the picture:

The problem is this diagram appears to be upside down from the conventional 7-way plug diagram I find on this site and everywhere else on the Internet (as seen here):

Since I don't have the trailer (or the previous truck owners vehicle) I can't test verify the hookup. Anyone know why the GM diagram on the socket cover plate seems upside down from what it should be?

If you look on your truck where the circle breaks is at the top and there is a small rectangular piece, on the picture you posted below it is at the bottom, hence making everything seem upside down.

It does look strange. Use a testlight if in doubt at the diagrams you provided is standard but the vehicle does not match up.

But those are keyed slots and they should align with each other on both diagrams....right?

If you rotate the keyed slot on either diagram to align the 2 diagrams together you'll see that the circuit functions are upside down from each other.

Or are you saying the keyed slot aren't suppose to align between the 2 diagrams and that its just the way the two diagrams happened to be drawn?

Maybe the keyed slot provides a orientation reference point between the "vehicle view" and the "trailer view" of a diagram and not necessarily between the face plate diagram and the 1999 Chucks Chevy Truck diagram.

Since I don't have the GM Truck or the trailer I can't test verify the actual wiring. I was trying to get my friends truck pre-wired so that he could pick up his truck then drive to Cal and pick up the trailer/boat.

I guess I can have my friend's truck wired the "standard" way and have my friend verify the trailer is wired the same way before they plug the two together.

have you thought of having him get an adapter, at least until the truck and trailer are both there so he can test it? they are very inexpensive, I have one because my dad's trailer is a 4 flat, and my truck has the 7 pin.

This is an example, but you can get them at almost any parts shop:

It would be easier then wiring it twice.

Use a multi meter and power up the various lights, signals and brakes to be sure of what you have.
