OK, so we've misplaced the fob that came with 1995 Suburban LS. Since owning this gem for three years, we've always used the keyless entry to disarm factory alarm, unlock doors and start truck. Is there a way to start the truck without the fob? Dealer says it will take several days to order in replacement fob. Any other suggestions for how to obtain a replacement fob?

Yes we have keys. But since owning the car, we have been told that the anti-theft system requires the remote fob to unlock the doors before it will start. Right now, without the fob, I turn the key and nothing happens. Just looking for a suggestion for replacement fob and, more importantly, for any advice on overriding this anti-theft system function.
You do not indicate whether the alarm itself is factory or aftermarket assuming for a second it is factory there are a few things you can try. First try putting the key in the ignition in the run position with the battery cable off, then connect the battery up again.without turning it off try to start it. Some, there is a fuse in the panel for a factory alarm that you can take out at it will work(check your owners manual). lastly, a few cars that i know if it is in extended tamper mode in the earlier pats systems you have to leave the key in the ignition in the run position for 3-6 hours, i used to put a battery charger on the battery when i was doing it so the battery wouldnt run down.
now assuming it is an aftermarket alarm, to try to disarm it look under the dash area for a button or
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition key to run press and hold in the button (little spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly) until the alarm chirps 1 time(if it chirps more than once usually means there is a problem with the alarm itself and would have to be serviced or replaced, you can consult a manual for the system installed to know for sure). This should over ride the system, and only the keyless entry part (not the theft alarm) would still be operating. The LED (lightemiting diode) light in the dash should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE
well i hope this helps and good luck fixing your truck.
EDIT: sorry, i reread your post and you did say a factory alarm, but i have seen some alarms that look factory and are not. so if you have the switch or toggle under the dash you will now it is defiantly not factory.
