Default Suburban starts after a few turns of the key

I am hoping that something loose is all that is happening to mine. About once a week, for the last three weeks, I go to start it up and nothing. I try 3 to 5 more times and she roars to life. The guy at the GM shop says that it the starter about to go, but I am trying to do a little research before I spend any significant money.

to BurbStone, i had something similar on a chevy nova i had. the starter brushes where bad and surface rust would form on the armature over night. a quick way to tell is when in park turn the key to start and hold it, then get a friend or stick your leg out the door and rock the truck back and forth pretty hard.dont really know why it worked but it did. i finally fixed the problem and bought a new starter.never had anymore problems with it. hope this helps.
