I've been working on getting my passlock problem fixed on my 98 suburban. When I open the door I hear a clicking and chirping as the alarm would do. I pulled the ignition key cylinderr out of the cylinder housing to clean it. Now it looks like the key does not fully seat- that one last click (about 3/8"+). When I insert the lock cylinder back in, it stays put; but I can now remove the key while the cylinder is in every/any position?!?
I read in one post on this procedure that I should have my foot on the brake pedal as I remove the cylinder... I don't think I did
Things seem to have gotten worse... It stated with the security beeping 5 times. Ran OK. Then it stalled as soon as I started it. Now it just clicks and chirps, I am getting some dash and radio; but after 10 minutes it still won't even crank.
I tried to pull codes w/the OBD II; but when I put the ignition on run to operate the OBD, all I get is "failed to connect".
Come on already, this is the most lame system. I have been working on cars since my first GM in 77. This is so hosed- any ideas you can steer me toward- if it seems plausible...

OK, I answered my own question. The key I used was a copy! It was a box store access brand key and the miserable thing was longer by about half an inch. My GM key, which is what I use had been taken off my keyring =for the tow home, and I just grabbed the kitchen spare. Mystery solved.
I am still not getting it started. Also I managed to get the GM key in the removed cylinder and the cylinder back in place. I tried to turn it over; but no luck AND...now the key is stuck in the cylinder in the run position and I cannot turn it to any other position. I have the column exposed (yikes, can I say that here) and even with the release pin inserted the key is stuck.
I read over the weekend that the battery may be low and that may lock up the key. I'll get back to you all after I try it this morning with a fresh charged battery- Do wish me luck.
