    Default Now what????

I have an issue or maybe even a group of issues that I am not sure what to look at first.

My wife used my truck yesterday, (usually things tear up when she drives it ... my truck doesn't like her i guess) any way she got in and went to move the drivers seat forward because she's so short she can't comfortably drive the truck. As she moved the seat forward it stopped dead I told her she'd have to just make due and i'd look at it when she got back.

When I went to look at it not only would the seat not move at all any more but the keyless entry wasn't working any more, the interior lights do not come on when the door is open now but will work with the dial next to the head light switch and strangely the power locks are not working either but when you push the switch to the side that locks the doors the interior lights all come on just like the door is open.

I checked all the fuses and the 10 amp heated mirrors fuse under the hood was blown so I replaced it but nothing changed. I then went through the fuses on the inside and all fuses were fine but the 30 amp breaker in slot B was actually hot enough it burned my finger when i touched it. being the genius i am I grabbed the one out of my wife's suburban and tried it in my truck and all it did was pop and get hot too. any one have any ideas as to what could have caused this all to go wrong all at once???

    Non working components.
    1. Interior lights....(except with the dash switch or the power door lock button)
    2. power seat
    3. Keyless entry
    4. Power locks
    5. (not pos about this one but) I believe the ABS has quit too because the brakes are stiffer now.

everything else seems to work as usual stereo, ac , heat, dash lights , rear lights, headlights, and the engine runs fine and the transmission shifts out fine still also. I am totally clueless now what might be causing all this but I am starting to think I might need to look at the computer or some kind of interior control module somewhere. any ideas would be helpful I am two steps from taking this to my friendly neighborhood GM mechanic (not the dealer but he works for one too)

    look forward to ideas.
    Thanks
    Jim

You might take a look under the seat and see if the wires got caught up in something when it was moving forward.

yep that was it exactly. when my wife went to move the seat forward some how the plug that supplies power to the seat and the heated part of the seat got hung between the brace bar on the seat bottom and the motor for the seat. Once I broke it free and put the 30 amp breaker back in everything worked fine. I was hoping it wasn't something that shorted out somewhere obscure so that i'd have to gut my truck to find it. that's one heck of a relief.

well you know i think each vehicle is used to being driven the way the person that usually drives it does. So when someone new gets in it to drive, things wear different and it causes problems, then the fun begins with trying to come up with the mone for parts for the needed repairs. Her truck is kind of the same way when I drive it for very long too though so it goes both ways. I just get mad when mine gets messed up because I am used to the "normal" maintinance things and have everything pretty well planned out so i have a good idea when things are going to go and need replaced. When she gets in and things are changed and break or fall apart it throws my whole system out of balance. Needless to say she is the only other person that has ever sat behind the wheel of my truck since I purchased it, and that's the way I'd like to keep it.

All the more money I have in my truck I can afford to drive it till it falls apart completely and rebuild it and go again. As much as I love GM trucks I just don't see me wanting one of the newer ones any time soon. I like that I am driving one of the last 350 motored vehicles GM made. I am comfortable with a 350 and this body style as I have 2 vehicles of my own with this body style. (not counting her Suburban or that number would be 3) Also she's a lead foot and a hot headed driver which is another reason she only drives mine on an absolutely have to basis.

There's a science to it all ya know? lol

I feel you. My wife drives her truck faster than I drive mine. Myself, I a show off! I have to cruise by and let folks admire my rims. Plus I'm a lil ignorant, cuz I have to let my system thump. I kinda make everyone listen to what I'm listening to. Mostly 70's r&b like the Isley's or Robert Flack. A lil Maze featuring Frankie Beverly ain't never hurt nobody.
