dash lights not working

I have a 2000 silverado, just recently the lights for the speedo, tach and that instrument cluster as well as the lights for the heating adjustment andthe light that shows the radio station have been giving me trouble. they will work some times and sometimes they are off making it so I can't see my speed or radio while driving at night. I have a chilton manual, but the wiring diagrams are not any help. i figure it is probably an open, but have no idea where to start looking. i don't even know what fuse feeds that circuit. any help will be appreciated

To start with the most simple idea have you tried the dimmer control? On my truck I like the lights as dim as possible so I have to set the knob right on the edge of dimmest and off. Sometimes mine will go off and I have to readjust them.

I have the dimmer control just about as bright as it gets.
