Guys: need some help here I have a 2008 Silverado Z71 2LT and I would like to add the GM remote start to it. I have the AP8 option on the truck from the factory. as far as I can tell all I need to do is purchase this part # 17801236 and have the dealer reprogram the computer and the remote start should work. Any help or information would be great.
Thanks
Charlie
Should just be a plug and play deal and if the dealer does it you should have no worries. Just a lil fyi if they don't explain how to use it it's rather simple, all you need to do is press the lock button first and then hold down the start button for a few seconds till it starts.

How much does this cost you out of pocket??

I consulted my dealer about this exact thing for my '08 Silverado which has only the LT1 trim level and he told me that it was a plug and play deal. All they have to do is install the kit and reprogram the system to recognize the transmitter.

It's not a plug and play system. You are right, the dealer needs to flash the computer to allow the remote start program to take affect. Any like for like key fob can be manually programed to work with your truck, but anything with a different funcion needs a flash. It's a simple job. If you've got a good dealer around they won't even charge you for the flash.

You should pay under 150 for 2 fobs if you're getting a deal.

I cant believe LT2 does not have it.

Because it is not a standard option with that package it can be added as log as you have the remote start provisions. Aside from the GM code, an easy way to tell is if your remote will unlock the doors at about 200 yards. Remote start has a longer range than the standard remote system.

The remote start will not start the truck at 200 yards. The 2way remote will start it that far away. I do not know the part # that he posted, I was thinking he had no remote start on his truck. when I was looking at my truck I looked at some LT2 packages and not one of them did not have the remote start. Thats why I find it hard believe a dealer would have ordered it without the remote start.
Ok Here is the scoop. Ordered the two fobs--good deal $136.00 and dealer is going to flash the computer at no charge while my truck is having other work done under warranty. small leak in steering rack--replacing entire rack and also front covering of drivers seat keeps comming unsnapped from under seat replace that also.. Bubba I agree most 2LT has remote start but I special ordered mine and at the time did not want the package that included the remote start. but got a great deal sticker was about 41,500 got it on the road for 30.
