    so how long do you guys expect the shaft to last after replacing it??

    Good info. Had mine replaced on my 01 Sierra under warranty. Hope my 06 doesn't give me any issues.

    Do you have to use the grease that GM provides or will a bearing grease work???

    i wish i would have seen this before. :( i had to pay 700 to replace it.

    Just removed the stock unit and replaced with the "new and improved" version. Very easy. I would HIGHLY recommend using a 15mm ratcheting wrench. About 15 of the 20 minutes I spent on this was loosening/tightening the bolts. A ratcheting wrench would make it a lot quicker.
