Hey there everyone!
I am brand new to the forums, this is exactly what I have been trying to find.
A little problem yesterday:
I had my gps and sirius radio wired for key on power in my 08 gmc 1500, all was fine until later in the day when I suddenly realized that when I shut the truck off and with the key in my hand the truck kept running, until I opened the driver's door and then it quit.
Anyone had this happen.
Thanks again for your time,
rick
I'll post some photo's when I can get it washed up!
thanks again

Sounds like they got some wired screwed up, like they some how tied in the wire for the radio that keeps the radio on until you open the door, maybe they are exposed and are arcing or something like that

Was your motor still running? I have an 02 silverado my radio stays on till i open the door also, but the truck (motor) cuts off with the key. I think or thought all trucks did that. I installed an Alpine CD Player and it still did that.

Yes, even with the key turned off and out of the ignition the truck kept on running.
My buddy's shop done the gps/sat radio wiring for me. I went back to see them and the unplugged the connection they made and everything appears to be ok. We just left it unp[lugged until monday and they will then rewire to a different place for key "on" power. Thank you very much to all that answered my question, am looking forward to posting again soon.
Thanks again
Rick

Hey guy's
I took the truck back yesterday and he reconnected the key on power, as of last night everything is good. He said the fact that all the terminal in the fuse box are so small that he may have inadvertingly touched the solderless connecter with another terminal. Replaced the connecter with an insulated one and like I say all ssems good so far.
Again that alot for the responses, hopefully i can return the favor some time.

this is a long shot but here it goes, when you turn off the ignition, they radio keeps playing in newer chevy's(03 and newer i think) until you open the door. i believe you said they tapped into the ignition circuit some way. because of this, when you remove the key the radio keeps playing, the ignition possible is receiving power from the radio, keeping the engine running, when you open the door, the radio turns off, thus shut off the engine.
running the idea through my head, my idea seems possible. any one agree?

The radio in my 99' stays on and power windows work until door is opened, I think 99' is first year GMs trucks did this..
rdgt2, sounds like you figured out your problem, that's always a relief. Good luck!
