    Default Mirror Compatibility

Hey everyone. I have a '04 Silerado 1500 Extended cab and have an opportunity to buy side mirrors that are heated and have the integrated turn signals. The parts list show them as '04 replacements, but my truck currently does not have the heaters or signals. Is the wiring for those features already present in the truck or am I going to have to run new wires if I want to do this upgrade?

    Thanks!

It may be prewired for those mirrors but you may have to buy the wiring harness. You can check the following link and see what is says.

Yeah they will plug right up. I just did the same thing on my 06. You have to remove door panel from bottom only and the wires actually plug into the bottom of your window and door lock swithes from inside the door. It will start working as soon as you plug it in. The only mirrors you have to get programmed are the ones that are power folding with the curbview feature.

not a whole lot of help on the newer ones but traditionally the wires are there, makes it easier when you select something at the dealership that isn't already on the vehicle. if you don't have to change out the wiring it may require you adding a fuse in the proper spot on the fuse panel either under the hood or on the one inside.

It looks from the wiring diagrams from the link above that the heated and signal mirros should hook right up and work, but I am left with one question; how does the heater function get turned on? Does it come on when you enable the rear defogger, or do we also need to get a new door switch cluster?

I know that on my 99 they are automatic (mirror defrost) but on other vehicles (companies) they come on with the rear defroster and some even have a specific side mirror defrost button. My guess is GM still just has them automatic but that could change through the years and redesigns of vehicles

On my 08 Z71 the heated mirrors come on when I turn on the rear defroster. I actually had to ask the dealer about this as it wasnt in my manual. I would love to add the integrated mirrors to my truck. I wonder if I can add the fold away ones by replacing the switch too.
