Hey everyone out there, i had a quick question. just looking for everyones response. I curious how various mods effected peoples gas millage. I just got an intake so im hoping this will help with mine. Im thinking about getting an exhaust, does this effect millage at all? and i also know that chips will help a few MPGs with millage but im not sure about my truck. I've noticed that the hypertechs are pretty popular on here, but everyone that says they get 2-3 mpg boosts have like 2004 trucks. will it have the same effect on my 2000 5.3? thanks in advance!!

You chose the best bang for the buck. Tiny savings on exhaust and you'll never get a payback (never will save the cost of the equipment).
Always try to use 100% gas (you can save several % by using 100% gas)
Reprogramming is russian roulette.
Just airing the tires and going softer on the gas are the most proven gas saver, but not much fun.
If you can stay close to 60-65 mph you'll save a lot of %s, but I can't keep it below 70 on the highway....

Yeah if you keep the RPM's right around 2000 you'll get the best mileage, although I'm sure you already knew that.
A cold air intake is always your best bet. Other little things include air dams, tonneau covers and spoilers. Every little bit counts.

of course, I'll be dissed for this, but there are no power mods that will improve your mpg. NONE.
1. use quality gas and 100% gas, if you can still find it.
2. find a gas station that is new (less crap in tanks) and brand that gives you best mpg, and stick to that gas station(Chevron, Shell, you might have good success with Exxon) I do Shell.
3. stay away from cheap gas, like Arco, AM/PM, and such
4. take it easy on that gas pedal, plan your acceleration and braking
5. take it easy on that brake pedal either
6. keep windows up, if you just can't - get window visors to prevent drag
7. drive with tailgate up
8. prime engine with Seafoam twice a year.
9. switch to synth on all fluids if you can
Basically, you will have good results with simply driving habits modifications. I tried acetone, but it does nothing on my truck.
Oh, HALO plugs are the only plugs to be proven by government research to improve mpg. have those. Happy.
Of course, routine maintenance is imperative.![]()

Does the type of gas you put in matter? are you going to get anything different if you put super in vs regular?

Hi,
Good info and it is good to remind us that the best mileage comes from the old fasioned ways. Few high tech addons are worth the money.
Now a question. I use seafoam in my boat motor. Why do you recommend it periodically in your truck.
Thanks,

Use the octane of gas recommended for your vehicle. Avoid ethanol, if you can. Premium gas does not guarantee better mileage nor does it guarantee better performance. Motors are tuned and designed for a specific octane and the engine expects that.....

The biggest improvement you can make is a tonneau cover (1-2mpg) and driving habits. Easy on the accelerator and use cruise control whenever you can. There is a huge loss when going over 65mph.

I have 05 silverado, 5.3, c/cab 4x4 with Banks cai, jba headers, magnaflow single exhaust, high flow cats, t/body spacer, vararam v/stack,msd wires, Diablo programmer. They added power, but no mpg. had best mpg increase with extang soft tonno cover. Over 45mph increased mpg by 1.5.
