Any chance there is a way to replace the lights for the steering wheel controls?

I have a 99 Suburban k1500 and had the same dash/radio light problem. Dash is easy, as mentioned earlier... The radio was a battle, but if you have any circuit training and soldering skills... I was able to remove the radio and drop the front panel. I desoldered the defective LEDs that lit the radio buttons and took them to the local Radio Shack where we matched them with some 12v LEDs in stock. They were 1 short of what I needed, but I got what they had and installed them. That fixed the problem... I never did go back for the last LED I needed... some day I'll take the radio out again to fix the last one, but more likely I'll just get a new head unit with a CD (the factory CD unit installed separately skips to a point where it's useless).

There are plenty of electical shops that can replace any dash lights these are the same shops that know how to do the stepper motors on the notorious GM clusters, just do a google search for instrument cluster in your area, or you can check out ebay as you can find their services on there as well and the eBay ones have same day turn around and can be back to you in a week99 K1500 Suburban LT "THE BEAST"
