Gotta agree, look in the direction of the belt tensioner. one other thought, the suburban i used to own had a problem with belt squeal, turned out it was the belt! went through three new ones before i got one to shut up!!!!!

I would have to agree, belt tensioner , or maybe the clutch fan

I have fought this same problem time and time again. Once you determine that is is not a pulley by removing the belt and spinning all of the pulley patiently and checking for noise or roughness, and checking the tensioner after removng the belt by moving that arm and making sure it hits the stop very positively (the spring should be strong), I recommend using a GATOR belt that can be found at NAPA. It is a serrated belt on the grooved side. Same Price. They seem to really reduce the noise. The only other thing I can suggest is make sure nothing is stuck in the pulley grooves (any of them) and I mean anything. Sometimes the slightest piece of material in the pulleys can cause noise. As a general rule, Belt Dressing is bad speaking from experience. It seems to fix nothing, maybe prolong an inevitable repair, sometimes. Good Luck...

    quick fix for belt squeal.
When running take a large wire brush and run press firmly on the belt top and bottom for a few seconds.
I use this method often after doing work to a vehicle and coolant or oil gets on the belt

WARNING THE FAN CAN TURN ON AT ANY POINT.
HOLD THE BRUSH TIGHT ONLY PRESS AS HARD AS NEEDED TO AVOID CATCHING THE BRUSH IN A PULLY

DO AT YOUR OWN RISK IF NOT COMFORTABLE THEN DON'T DO IT

I just found from my dealer that there is a tech bulletin about squeeks under the hood. GM is telling techs to look at the alternater bearings.

Update...the latest cold start squeak WAS the alternator. Replaced under warranty, along with the belt.

I chased this same problem a couple of months ago,it turned out to be the air cond. belt instead of the supentine belt.It was a bear to figure out because I didn't know there was a seperate belt for the air. It's all the way down on the bottom left on my 03 sierra.
    Good luck

My 98 Sierra has the same problem, but it only squeals when it rains or it's wet outside... After driving it for a little while the squealing goes away.... I don't really know why this is happening, lol...

i started out w/ a little chirp in my belt. then it became a vibration noise that happened every once in a while after i put my intake on and just thought it was the intake vibrating the fan shroud. it got worse today and come to find out my alternator bearings are shot found metal shrapenal under the hood. gonna replace the alternator tommorrow.
