    Default Stupid Check Engine Light!!!!

So after work today, I ran over to Circuit City to see what kind of stereos they have. I went to see how easy it was to take the dash off with the clips, and I noticed my check engine light was on AND the security light!!!

I don't know if I pulled something or what. So luckily, I just happened to have my hypertech programmer in my truck and it picked up 2 codes. I don't remember the codes off the top of my head...but it was an o2 sensor and an evap code. I had to go to a meeting so I didn't have a chance to take it to an auto parts store to see if they could pull the codes and tell me exactly which o2 sensor was bad. I'll have the mechanic at work look at it tomorrow. Good grief!

Not major things, then. It might not drive well but at least it shouldn't lock all the brakes up or anything.

Does your code reader not pull the codes exactly so you can look them up and get more detail?

Sounds as if the security light may be due to your messing with the dash. I can only hope others will give you some advice on what steps to take from here. chevy parts

    Good luck,
    Steven

    Good luck,
It does give specific codes, but I don't have them in front of me. I have them written down in my truck. I know a guy back home that's a mechanic so I texted him the codes and he told me what they were. I'll post the codes tomorrow. I'm already in bed and I'm not walking out to my truck to get the codes.

I cleared the codes at lunch and drove the truck around a while and the check engine light didn't come back on.

    BTW:

P0141 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

In case that was a typo and you meant 0142 on the second one:
P0142 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 3)

if u don't have a code reader take the negative (black) cable off your battery for 1 hr, plug it back in and the light will be off next time the ignition comes on. it will come right back on if there's an issue. the o2 sensors are before and after your catalytic converters so you should have 4 of them. as far as whether bank 1 sensor 1 is before/after driver/passenger side or whatever i'm not sure try google. removing the dash shouldn't have ANY thing to do with the codes you've given. must just be a "ghost in the machine" or something. could be caused by malfunctioning o2 sensor or water damage as well
