I have the same problem with my 98 Sierra... Does it have a cabin air filter too?

You ever listen to Car Talk? They had a guy call in with a similar situation and they said to read the lables close of the produts they sell for smelly ac's one was just alcohol.
They suggested looking at the cowl vent for a build up of trash and moldy leaves and clean them out and wash out the gunk and it should help.
If you got the cabin filter would change that out also after cleaning things out.
Yea I would say change the cabin air filter then possibly look at the heater core, they are bad to go out

Could someone take a picture showing the location of the cabin filter? I have had this problem as well, and people suggested the cabin filter, but I can't find it. Thanks!

The air filter doesn't make sense because if that was the problem, you would have stinky heat too so I wouldn't waste my time on that. I know there is a TSB for my GF's 06 Grand Prix about stinky AC that applied to a lot of models and I think the cause was water in the casing or something. I think they recommend drilling a hole in the bottom to drain it out and then putting some oil or something in there. Sorry I'm not too much help with that but hopefully I'm helping to steer you in the right direction.

indicates there is a replacement filter available however there is no
provision for it.
