Just a few thoughts and ponderings on transmissions:
1. If you do a major rebuild always replace the torque converter. I've heard a lot of people not doing so lately.
2. If you have an external oil cooler have it boiled out or replace it if you do the rebuild. If you are doing the rebuild due to internal failure and there are large particles or chips in the fluid, replace it. Don't take the chance.
3. Someone said in another post, "You can't cool transmission fluid enough." Mostly agree on that one. Further, you can't filter it enough. The newer Ford's come standard with an in-line filter as well as the one in the pan. You can buy one and install it fairly cheap and easy. It is a really good thing!
One thing most people forget is that basic preventative maintenance will help your vehicle last longer than you want it too!
Remember, Clean fluid is happy fluid is happy driver and happier wallet!

My Ford E250 work van blew the transmission out at 16000KM
I'm not sure what I did wrong here LOL

If that is your work van, what kind of "abuse" does it take? And I mean abuse like a taxi or Police car would take. Other than that I would say crappy luck! Aside from it being a Ford, some of the late 90's model 4R100 transmissions just fell apart like that. Made on a Monday or Friday? Give me VIN and I can tell ya! Warranty history and all kinds of goodies!
