    Default New from Ill.

    Hi everyone!
Just found this site while trying to find out what the difference is between a V1500 & R1500 and the other 1500's. I have a GMC 1500 4x2. It's got 208380 miles on it and still runs strong and uses No oil . Interior is like brand new , body has some rust on rockers and lower quarters.
My plan is to turn it into a 4 door Avaburb . I want to cut the roof off and leave about 10" of it just in front of the rear power window and move that forward to make the back of the cab.Make a lower bulkhead so the window will still roll up & down. I've done some measuring and should end up with about a 58" bed. If the rear window can't be done I'll just get the back of a cab and fit it in.
Anyone know what the floor and side look like with the trim and carpet pulled out , like a pickup bed I hope .
Already put new wheels and tires on it , boy what a difference wheels make, Eagle Off Road wheels off E-Bay .
And what is the difference in the 1500's ?

Welcome to the site! Sounds like a fun project. The difference between R1500 and V1500 is the "R" is for 2wd and " V" for 4X4, I think.

By the way, the R and the V in the 8th position of the VIN refer to the engine type. My Suburban has an R engine - the 5.7 litre and the V is a 4.8 litre v8. This is the kind of thing you know but have trouble proving. I found a list of engine designations on this site: http://www.angelfire.com/ca/TORONTO/VIN/chevrolet.html

Welcome to the forum! I like the avaburb Idea. Here's what the rear of mine looked like when I removed some of the carpet.
