    Default how do i tell?

I just bought a 03' Z71 and it has remote start installed but the guy who traded it in to the dealer lost his key fob, how do i tell if it is a factory or an aftermarket one?

It has an antenna on top of the the rear view mirror and has the on/off switch under the dash along with the warning sticker under the hood if that helps any.

My mom had a 2000 Cavalier with the GM factory remote start, and it did not have an on/off switch. The dealer system has a very clean and hidden look to it, other than the key fobs you would never have any clue that it had it. My 2001 S-10 has an aftermarket Viper alarm/remote start, and the antennae is mounted on the upper left hand corner of the windshield. My guess is that yours is an aftermarket system, good luck.............AMY

It sounds like you have an aftermarket component. Stock systems don't have the extra antena. Look aound this web site. It might be what you have.

do yourself a google search of the name and number on the black box you found. if you dig around enough you should be able to even download the owners manual. I found the owners manual and installation manual for mine...just had to go digging. you could check ebay for a remote and allso programming instructions...good luck

well did some research, not a lot out there for my model, so it looks like I'm going to the dealer and paying 90 bucks for a new one. but if anyone knows of a 2205 remote with the colored buttons i would appreciate it.

Hit up Ebay there was a guy with like 36 assorted remotes for cheap in there and they were all after market ones. Also if you can get the freq maybe you can get one that will work maybe another brand.

If you don't have one, for a French/English version of the manual go to http://www.astroflex.com/modules/Axi...04U-5204U).pdf
Good luck with the new remote!
    Are we having fun, yet?
