    Default Door locks

    Hey,

does anyone know how many keys a 99 Suburban has ?

Is it just one for door and ignition or do they have two seperate keys for each one?

I ust picked up my burban, came with one key that does the ignition but it does not unlock the door, it fits in it, just doesnt unlock them. If it did not have two keys, then the ignition key has been changed, can I then contact GM and get a new door key?

Older GM trucks had 2 keys, one had a square head and worked the ignition, the other had an oval head that worked the door locks. They plastic heads had the GM logo molded in them. I think 2000 was when they switched to the larger-head key with a molded bowtie or GMC logo. 99 had a single, smaller rubber-headed key with just a GM logo. Contact your GM dealer and get them to look up the key code for your truck and cut you a NEW key, don't get a copy made at a hardware store. You will have to give them you driver's license and registration or some other proof of ownership of the vehicle when you go. it will cost a little more than getting a copy made, but if you're like me you want a new key, not a copy of the old worn out key.
