    Default Build Code

Whilst looking up information on a replacement P/S pump w/ reservoir for my wife's 1999 Suburban I discover the need to look for the proper build code for the brakes on the label affixed to the inside of the glove box. On her truck it is JB6, other code numbers I saw suggested as a possibility are JB5 and JB7. What is the significance of the proper build code for the brakes in getting the correct power steering pump?

Some power steering pumps are connected to the power brakes. A diesel engine produces no vacuum, so the power boost is provided by the hydraulic pressure in the power-steering pump. This is called hydra-boost and, I think, the RPO code is JD3 ,or JD6. I could be wrong about this, but some gas vehicles may use both vacuum and hydraulic for brakes.

I think the JB6 code is just vacuum assisted.
