99 Suburban OEM Running Boards

I picked up a nice set of used OEM running boards to install on my '99 2500 Suburban. I must have the only Sub that didn't come with running boards? LOL.

Anyway, I was surprised that the mounting hardware that the arms of the boards needed to attach to were not on the underside of the rig. I had to order them up and have them welded on. I would have thought every Sub, yukon, etc would have these items installed at the factory so that the dealers could easily upsell running boards while closing the scale.

Then, my friend with a '96 Suburban picked up used OEM running boards for himself and also found no mounting hardware. So between the two of us we were O fer 2 on mounting hardware.

Was this common or were we just unlucky?

Wow, that sucks. I don't think that I've ever even seen a stock 'burb without running boards to begin with, so I'm not too sure about the hardware.

I'll have to give a look under my '99 tomorrow to see if they are welded or bolted.

In the underside picture, the two white things had to be added on. Then the arms from the boards are bolted to them. Would have been a simple project if the white metal brackets were already in place.

Well I know when i removed mine from my beast i took the arms off and left them attached to the boards in case i sold them everything would be there for the new owner

Yes, the black arms stay with the boards, and those came with the used ones I purchased. However it was the mounting brackets that we assumed were under the truck, ready to mount to, which were not there. List price on those little brackets from the dealer was $109 just for the bits, then labor at my local service shop to have them all welded in place.

I didn't see any tabs on mine, but it was a government truck...

I carry a milk crate for the short people ;)

Mine is actually ex Fire Department. Sort of seemed like a stripper model when I got it. But doesn't everyone want running boards? LOL

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have the GM part number for the brackets that need to be welded on?
I just bought a '99 Suburban without running boards and would like to add a set, as I have 5 kids ages 8 and under that will need to get in and out of the truck on a regular basis.
