I have a 2003 Chevy Z71 1/2 ton and it lopes when in idle. Sometimes the engine dies. Please help.

Welcome to the site! Does your check engine light come on, and what motor do you have? You may have to take it to Autozone or a parts place that can read DTC's to tell you if anything is goin on. Could be a fuel related issue (fuel filter, pump, etc.) or electrical (random misfire caused by bad coilpack, tune-up needed, bad O2 sensor, etc.).

The service engine light comes on and never goes off. Will my truck is running the lights dim on and off will in idle.

If the check engine light stays on, its emission system, flashes its other.
If your looking at the engine, on the right side towards the top of the motor is the fuel pressure regulator. It's in line with the fuel rail and has a vacuum line that goes up under the plastic cover on the top. Remove that vacuum line from the regulator and see if you have fuel present in the line. If you do the regulator is bad. Post your findings on here and let us know what you find.
Just replaced the Intake Gaskets on my "03 Silverado 4.8L. I had the same symptoms. Also check the MAF sensor and O2 Sensors. Pick up a Haynes or Chilton repair book from AutoZone. Mine was a big help!

Try removing and cleaning the idle control valve with throttle body cleaner. They move in and out to control idle. They get carboned-up and get stuck sometimes.
I had the same problem. It was really bad, I couldn't keep it running. I called my buddy that worked at the dealer and he had me check the butterfly. It was very sticky. I cleaned it with throttle body cleaner and the problem went away.
I had just installed a K&N air filter so I think the excess oil gummed everything up.
Once I got it all cleaned out, it was good to go. No problems since.
Hope this helps.
