Auto-locking doors........grrrrrrrrr!!!

I absolutely HATE the auto-locking doors. My understanding is that the 04's you can program out the feature altogether, but NOOOOOO, not an '05. Really ticks me off, may have to find a wire that needs a good snippin' to disable it myself. Unless someone knows other tricks, like maybe the dealer can deprogram something to shut it off? WORSE than DRL's!!

Check your manual, there may be a way to disable it.

I know that you can program it to do stuff like honking or not honking when you lock the doors with the remote keyless entry.

How do u get it to honk when you use the fogger to lock the doors if you know???? i'd appreciate the info

hi i have a 2006 colorado crewcablt3.anyway the manual says and i tried it myself that the automatic lock can be programmed not to lock or to lock automatically.also you have a control on the driver and front passenger to lock and unlock.good luck with your truck.it was designed as a safety device.

On my Silverado, I can change how the doors lock in my DIC (Driver's Information Center) with my steering wheel controls.

As Dwill said you can do it with the DIC, but if your truck doesn't have the steering wheel controls this is how you do it the old school way. BTW this is for an 05'Silverado/Sierra unlocking/locking procedure, hope this helps because it's a s%#& load of typing

Programmable Locking Feature: The following list of available programming options.

Mode 1: All doors lock when the transmission is shifted out of park.

Mode 2: All doors lock when the vehicle speed is greater than 8 mph. (This would be what you want because when you get under 8 mph. it will automatically unlock the doors before you even stop.)

Note: Choose one of the two programming options listed above BEFORE entering the programming mode. To enter the programming mode, do the following:

1. Begin with the ignition off. Then pull the turn signal/malfunction lever toward you and hold it there while you perform the next step.

2. Turn the key to RUN then back to LOCK twice. Then with the key in LOCK, release the turn signal/malfunction lever. Once you do this, the doors will lock and unlock, the horn will chirp once, and a 30 second timer will begin. You are now ready to program the automatic door lock feature.

3. Press the lock side of the power lock switch once. You will hear one or two chimes. The number of chimes tells you which lock mode is currently selected. Continue to press the door lock switch until the number of chimes that you hear matches the number of the mode that you want. If you take longer than 30 seconds, the locks will automatically lock and unlock and the horn will chirp twice to indicate that you have left the program mode. If this occurs, you can repeat the procedure beginning with step 1 to re-enter the programming mode.

You can exit the program mode at any time by turning the ignition to RUN (the doors will automatically lock and unlock and the horn will chirp twice to indicate that you are leaving the program mode). If the lock/unlock switches are not pressed while in the programming mode, the current automatic settings will not be modified.

NOTE: I actually tried this on my truck just for fun even though I have the steering wheel controls, and it took me 5 times because I kept running out of time! So keep your patience during this process, but I assure you that it will work...............AMY

Here is the other side of the coin, this is also an option you can do along with the first one I gave you.

Mode 3: All doors unlock when the key is removed from the ignition.
