    Default Can't read codes

Ok, so I have figured out which code reader/scanner that I need for my 2007 Silverado crew with 4.8 & auto. Now I have to figure out why it will not do anything. I replaced the fuse to the lighter. It was blown. 2 scanners have been tried after replacing the fuse and one did nothing and one lit up but did not establish communication. I can't find anything loose, but don't really know what to check. The truck is stock and runs well. The only electrical work was a brake controller that was simply plugged in a couple of years ago. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sure you know this, but you have to have the key turned on to use the ALDL port to get the codes.
