Hey Guys,
Can you please tell me the Towing capacity of a 2003 silverado v6 4x4 long bed?
does the motor size matter in the truck for the towing capacity? is the tranny the same in the v8 as the v6?
I am looking to get a boat and need to know how much I can tow with it. It doesnt seem that powerful with the v6.
thanks.
I'd guess that would be a pretty lousy tow rig. With the added vehicle weight of the 4WD setup you are probably looking at not much over 1,500 pounds- you should be able to find a gross vehicle weight sticker somewhere. I have a 2007 V6, and the GVW depends on both motor and rear end, among other things. I have the "touring" rear end, and my towing capacity is near 2,000 pounds. With the lower rear end, it goes up 1,00 pounds.
I think you need for buddy up with someone with an owners manual to be sure about your combination.

you might need a new rig lol. mine will only tow like 7000. i have 3.42 gears unfortunatly.

I don't know a lot about towing, but I used to tow my in-laws Tahoe boat with their 2002 Expedition with a 5.4 v8 and it would "lugg" pretty badly in town. It did pretty well as constant highway speeds, but I def wouldn't have towed it with the 4.0 in my explorer. You have to add in the weight of the trailer too (or at least I would think). Seems like you would be putting a lot of stress on your tranny without the torque of the v8 to pull it. Again, I know nothing about towing, so the 4.3 might have plenty of "ummph" to tow a boat.
