    Default Passenger tire question.

Hi everybody. New to the site and thanks in advance for any help. I purchased a 2005 2500 HD Silverado 4x4. I have had it for about three months and went today to get tires rotated at a tire shop. (too cold in the garage to do it myself.) The tire shop said the tires on my truck arent really safe for my truck. It currently has 265/70/16 Michelan passenger tires on. I am planning a trip in two weeks and would like to know if my tires are really unsafe or am I ok with these tires on my truck. Thanks again.

go with what the tire says. if the tire says it'll only hold 35, then dont go more than that.

The tag in the door refers to the LT truck tire that was originally on your truck. The LT tire has thicker side walls (8-10 ply) and is designed to carry the load that a HD truck was build for.

You'll get a little smoother ride with the passenger tires, but if plan on towing or hauling loads, you'll want the LT tire.

I usually run mine at 45/45 for everyday, and 55/80 when towing. While there was snow on the ground, I was down to 40/40.

Go with LT's if your going to haul at all. Good luck,

Thanks that answers my question. I will be looking for tires this weekend. The bad thing is the tires that are on it only have about 8,000 miles on them. If anybody is in northeast Ohio and wants to buy some Michilen tires cheap. let me know.

The michelin LTX M/S are a light truck tire (or LT). We use these tires on a Ford E350 box truck at work with a 6.0l diesel. they are great tires and we have put a lot of weight in the back of that truck. you will be fine i dont know why the guy told you that, probably just so he could rip you off on a new set of tires.
