Hey Truck Guys (& gals),
Quick background: My '04 Silverado WT1500 came with the cheap, vinyl seats and the non, fold-down center seat. I really wanted cloth (and the fold-down center seat), so I found an '06 Silverado 2500, with cloth seats and the fold-down center seat and swapped them out. Everything went smooth, but...
Each seat has a person sensor for the Airbag, and although the connectors fit, the Air Bag sensor light is now lit, and I get the error message, Service Air Bag on the dash.
Do you think it's just a wrong, pin connection on the connectors? Or do I need to re-set the truck computer somehow?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
p.s. love the new seats and having an arm-rest with a center storage is awesome!

I have a 2005 Silverado 1500 Z-71 and I have pulled both the steering wheel air bag, and the passenger side air bag out before. I think the reason why you are getting the service air bag light, is because you didn't disable the SIR system for that particular zone of the vehicle. I am researching it for you right now, there are 7 zones total for the Silverado's. What I am worried about is the different year that you took the seat out of, the problem is there are different zones for different years of the trucks. I have the zones for the SIR system for an 04', but the fact that you swapped out seats from an 06' is messing me up.![]()
My take on this one is if the pin connectors all connected up the same without you trying to force a round peg in a square hole then it may just be something in the computer it's self that needs reset.
I'd take it to have the codes read and get the codes and go from there myself .... I have a fondness for the K.I.S.S. method as it's usually something simple that causes the problem for you.
Let us know what you find out though so we can all share in the resolution

I found it but I am not going to post it out of a safety reason, you can disable that system but it would probably be better off taking it to someone to have them deal with it. It's not worth someone getting hurt, sorry if I got your hopes up. Good luck........AMY
Well, I don't want to DISABLE my air bags, I just want them to work as before. I guess I need to get the wiring on the connectors matched. I'll try pulling the batt cable for a few minutes and see if that does the trick. If not, I'll either work on the connectors myself, or just take it to the dealer to fix.
well what are you doing with your old seats??? if there's no difference in what those seats do just the plug coninector there surely should be a way to swap out just the plug ends. you'll want to use butt connectors and heat shrink though. that way the wires won't come apart and if they do they are still protected by the heat shrink.
My old vinyl seats went in the '06, and I put the newer, cloth seats in my '04. All I want is for the newer cloth seats to behave just as the old ones did. The connectors are the same on the seat sensors, and they snapped together, but there must be a mis-match on the wires, as soon as I swapped in the newer seats, I got the air-bag warning lights.
I had hoped that everything was the same on the connectors, but apparantly not. I was just hoping someone might have had this experience and knew of a solution to save me the headaches of fixing the wiring issues.
