Hey does anybody know when GM switched from a left side dipstick to the righthand side on the older engines??? How about how to identify V-8 cid. by numbers??Grummet,

84 Z-28 5.7, flat top pistons,Performer cam/intake,pacesettter headers Accel ign.,2100rpm stall converter..............
97 S-10 Blazer 4.3 4x4 with solid axles and 8 inches of lift, not finished yet.

is this a loose motor or in a vehicle, you can try to use the vin if its in a car may not be original motor tho, what i did was use the casting numbers off a block i thought was a 400sm and found out it was a 350sm out of a early 80's pickup.
I just googled the casting numbers and found it
