    Default 97 chevy silverado

    can someone out there tell me where the steering assist chip is located and how do I change it ??????

    Welcome to the site.

    If you mean the "power steering control module", then my book tells me it is "under the instrument panel". Replacement is as follows:

    POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM)
    Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect wiring connectors. Remove instrument panel extension. Remove PSCM by sliding module forward, then pulling down. To install, reverse removal procedure.

    NOTE: When replacing PSCM, EEPROM inside must be calibrated using special equipment.
