Whenever I pull off from a dead stop I'm hearing a clunk, sort of like a loose u-joint. If I pull off real easy I don't hear it. I've been told that it's a common problem and that lots of um do it and it's nothing to worry about. It's just annoying and I wish it wasn't there. It's a 03 Silverado Z71 5.3 ext. cab. Anyone experiencing this?
It could also be a rearend clunk, though on an 03 I wouldn't expect that yet. On my 91 suburban the rear-end clunks whenever I put it in gear. There's some slack in the gearset and the clunk is the transmission simply taking up that slack. Is that bad? Probably. Is it an immediate worry? Probably not.

Does your rear driveshaft have a slip yoke in it? That's another common source of clunks.

slip yoke on these trucks, gm has a fix via a tsb to file down a tooth or two to stop this annoying clunk..
My truck does the exact same thing. At first I thought it was drive-line related, but after going to a parking lot and doing it over and over I noticed it's in the steering wheel. I would feel it a bit in hte pedals, but not as "hard" as in the steering wheel. I saw a thread on the forums with great photo's showing how to lube the steering shaft. I've just been waiting for some better weather to get out there and see if that corrects the problem.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been told it's the slip yoke but maybe it's in the steering like yours is. I'll check it out.

Same problem here. I'm betting on the slip yoke. I'm gonna check it today. I'll update when I find the issue.
