    Default A/C Port Location

    Hi Guys,

This is probably been answered before, but I can't find the answer using search. I have a 2002 Sierra 2500HD with the 6.0L gas motor. The a/c needs a recharge and I thought I would save some money by performing this myself. Problems is I can't tell where the "low" pressure port is to install the freon/oil charge.
I have two visible ports on topside of motor, both with black caps and both attached to the same metal pipe. The only thing dividing them on the pipe is a metal coupler. One port is a little larger than the other.
    Which one do I use?

    Any help would be great!

Do yourself a big favor and have the system recharged professionally. You need to evacuate the system so when it's recharged the exact amount of freon can be added. Topping it off can cause premature failure of your compressor.

    Thanks Jim!
I will have a pro do the work, just trying to save some money.

According to what I've heard as long as you keep the pressure within specifications you won't damage anything by topping it off. If a system leaks and you top it off you're not exceeding what the compressor was designed to handle.

I've got the same problem though I can't decide which one is a high pressure and low pressure port as they are within inches of each other. I have a GM service manual on the desktop computer upstairs I'll take a look later tonight and get back to you if there's anything in there about which is which...

EDIT: Couldn't find anything sorry man..
