When do you get this light coming on? During breaking the light will come on without the ABS actually kicking in? During towing perhaps?

Hmm, loose wire maybe? If it were me I'd pop the dash console off and have a look for loose connections or cracked solder joints.

I had a bad solder joint on an old Ford F-150 I had years back, made the odometer go on and off.

Bad sensor or sensor ring. Could be just dirty or loose too. If you don't have a scan tool to watch each individual sensor you need to check all of them physically. If the rear sensor is reading off the ring gear in the axle it could have metal shavings stuck on the magnet of the sensor. If that's the case you should pull the rear cover and check out the internals too.

Most techs should know what to look for. And a GM tech would have the best scan tool available to read that trucks codes and/or check the operation of the abs sensors. Something else I thought of, are all four tires the same size?

Maybe they come on when you lose traction? Like when you go over gravel, a speed bump or an icy bridge or something like that?
