86 4x4 blazer 2.8 .. electrical problems !

we bought a 4x4 blazer its real nice perfect condition has new 2.8 goodwrench engine and rebuilt auto , we had it going good all summer and then we got another vehicle and let this one sit while it was raining

i went to drive it one day and it started right up drove to the store and it was gettin dark , i put on my headlights and got to the store was in there for about 10 minutes and came out ,battery was dead, i got a jump and when i started it it wouldnt run without me giving it gas and im out in the middle of no were and the guy takes off with jumper cables and everything (they were his) so i had to keep it running but it would refuse to run with the headlights on all of a sudden while i revved it threw it in gear and drove hom it was only down a 4mile straight away no turns, the hole time pitch black i had to drive flicking the lights on for a sec to see were i was going (i live in the country were you can do this kind of stuff foaks) , middletown california look it up its nothing but farmlands anyway , we got it home and parked it for a while, found out the floor was soaked on passenger side and we tried to start it back up with a jump and it wasnt gettin fuel, we threw gas in the carb and it fired up literally, it ran and caught on fire at the same time .... after that it wouldnt turn over, we replaced the starter and ignition switch its a funny story .. we just put it up for sale after the fire and someone came to try n fix it and drive it away , wouldnt listen to me cause i knew it wasnt the starter lol but he replaced it.. on a 4x4 blazer for no reason and ended up leaving it here never bought it.. but yea id really like to start workin on it to sell it now and i dont wana just start diggin in with out looking around on the computer andthis is were im starting.. so if any one knows what the heck is up id apreciate it

so far i know its a wire or ecu if there is one so if anyone can be specific that be great

sounds like it was the atermanator at first...but after you..um..it caught on fire...how much burned????maybe it grew a bunch of corrosion when it sat in the rain???

nothing burned just the gas a little on the hood insulation.. um i know about the alternator but why was it not getting fuel when we got a brand new battery and tried starting it?

please only people with 4x4 tbi experience i know all the basics i can build engines, and put in wire harnesses and stuff i just would like to know were a certain wire is and in which harness is it gonna be in and were is the stupid ecu .. i know water is in a harness and its shorting a couple wires and thats what killed the voltage regulator in the alternator
