    Default To The Dark Side?

    Im looking for a new truck this year, with all the incentives abound. The two trucks are, a 2008-9 silvy single cab 5.3L with the 4.10 ratio and the 2009 ram single cab 5.7L with the 3.92 ratio, both 1500's. I have always been a chevy man, but the new 5.7L in the ram caught my attention when they bumped it to 390 Hp. The trucks are not really going to be used for hauling and off roading, but they both will need to be 4x4's so no r/t for the ram. So I am asking both ram and silverado forums for their feedback on which would be a better truck. Also which would take the cake in a race between the two? Any help and two cents will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I just bought my wife a 2009 dodge something (SUV). It is an alright vehicle. The plastic on the inside vibrates a little bit on the highway. It is a smooth ride though.
    As far as the GMC truck I have it feels very solid. The interior parts like the glove box and arm rests are built tough where some other types aren't tough.
    What it really boils down to is what truck do you like the best. Comparing who has the fastet quarter mile time trial isn't a good comparision. Ford might have it one year, Dodge will get it the next year and GM has it sometimes. If you look at resale value GM has the best. Consumer reports put the GM2500 diesel at its best buy for 2008, not sure where the 1500 trophy wound up.
    Oh by the way the Dodge navigation system is really lacking.

    Yeah I was not really looking at getting navigation packages, more of a functionality over comfort kind of person, but thanks for the help. I just want a fast truck for a decent price and I love both trucks, but sadly it has to come down to only one. Also I am interested at looking at doing small bolt-on mods, CAI, exhaust, headers possibly, a tune as well, a chip at the most. But I would not mod for a while after getting the truck

    Welcome to the site!
    We are all here because we are very happy with our GM trucks. Opinions from the two sites might be biased so maybe research some 1/2-ton truck shootouts to where you can compare sise by side everything from mileage, to comfort, to braking, etc. Good luck with your selection and i hope you find a home here!

    Yeah from the research I have done they both are equal when it comes down to how many pros and cons each have, in my opinion. But there seems to be nothing for reviews or anything when it comes to single cab trucks, since everyone is crew cab crazy now-a-days, so I thought I would go to the source.     to each his own but i will say that two of my friends have got rams within the last 6 months and are getting amazingly bad mpg, my 5.7 99 burban gets around 14 combined and both are getting less, and for the flip the old man get s 22-23 on the hwy eith a 1/2 ton crew cab 07nbs 6.0 with only a CAI and borla exhaust, i will say I like the looks but both of my friends are in full regret mode with their rams

    if you go dodge, be prepared to keep your gas card handy at all times, they love that stuff
    2000 silverado with a 5.3l v8, shorty headers, upgraded plugs, 10 mil wires, magnaflow high flow cats, flowmaster 80 series muffler(2 in 2 out) w/ 18 inch stainless silverline tips. i have a k&n CIA. its a 4x4 z71 offroad package. Ls model.
    extended cab 160k miles, truxedo low profile bed cover, diablo sport predator tuner.
    reman tranny @ 130k miles

    Dodge's 5.7l will guzzle gas, no matter what they say.

    What would the 5.3 get with the 4.10 rear in it. That should level out the mileage a bit, correct?
