Thread: Engine Trouble

    Default Engine Trouble

2002 Chevy suburban 8 cylinder with 110K miles.

Morning cold startup, has a loud "clicking sound" in engine. After the engine warms up after several minutes the sound goes away and the engine runs smoothly. When I last changed my oil the sound went away for a while. Dipstick shows oil is full right now, but I did notice some "sludge" or build up on the end of the dipstick.

What is the problem and can I solve it with any kind of flush or cleaning agent added to the oil. Is it serious enough that the engine is in jeopardy?

    Any help is appreciated.

have you had a couple gallons of sludge poured on you yet? if not, you might want to hurry up and switch to Castrol GTX with sludge protection lol. thats what i use. i dont want to get sludged.

With a Suburban over 100K, It is not under warranty and there is nothing to hire a lawyer over....This truck did not make a noise like this until over 110K...

now that i think about it, my old truck did that too. i always figured it was normal cause it went away after a while.

Sounds like piston slap. Which is normal.
I would recommend running Sea Foam though. Run it for about 100 miles.
If it makes any difference I like Mobil 1 but that's me.

Can that be remedied by using an engine flush then oil change to a high mileage type of oil along with Lucas oil treatment?, or does the lifter need/have to be replaced?
