Is there a way to hook up an mp3 player directly to the head unit, by the way of using aux/ cd button?

Yes there is another option first try crutchfield.com there are some FACTORY hookups made that can give you mp3 function without an aftermarket head unit, second you could go with the apline unit that is also a bluetooth and can be used in all your cars instead of just one
