I am currently driving a Ford F-150 5.4 V8. I am getting about 16 to 17 mpg. I looked at a 2003 Silverado today with a 5.3. How is the gas mileage in the silverado? Is it worth it to trade? All opinions welcome.
I have an 03 silverado, and with me "romping" on it occasionaly It gets between 16 and 17 mpg. And they are much quicker than an f-150.
And.. even if it got the same mpg, its just a good feelin knowin you wont hav2 walk home!! LOL
but with true duel exhaust, K&N cold air intake, and a thottle body spacer.. I've "pulled off" 20mpg on my '00 silverado 5.3!! even got 19.25mpg goin 75-80mph on the interstate!!

well i hear that they get good gas milage but i have a 2000 silverado with the 5.3l true duals cold airand i get about 10mpg in the city and 14 on the high way but i am always romping on it

I had an '02 SuperCrew w/5.4 and got an avg. of 16 to 17 mpg. I now have a '04 Chevy Crew Cab w/5.3 and avg. between 17 & 18 mpg. My driving habits have not changed, but mpg has gone up by at least 1 to 1.5 mpg. My '02 was 2wd and my Chevy is 4wd, so "go for it"!

Hi I owned a 2005 Silverado 4x4 extended cab with a 5.3 310 HP version I averaged 15 in town highway was 18 -19 it had great power I now own a 2009 Silverado in the same configuration but the engine has 315 HP and it has a Z71 off road package I am only averaging 12 MPG around town I have not driven enough highway mile to know that yet I am some what disapointed in the mileage so far but will wait for more mile and some warmer weather before I get to worried. I do not believe you will regret going to a silverado though good trucks
I am getting 18 summer time/summer vacation. Mixed. Solid 22 FWY.
Engine is very sensitive to temperature. Winter time it drops down right on. 16.7 mixed. Still doing very well on FWY. I have Scangauge connected, so data are computerized, actually.
Now, just because it is gas mileage question, let me throw a tease in, he-he:
well, why don't we all go here:
http://www.topgear.com/us/videos/mor...-to-blackpool/
and watch it. I had pleasure yesterday (very disappointed with Veyron's performance, but hey...)
Anyways, let me translate that race into the things we know:
they, actually, covered 819 miles, not 750(British mile is longer)
they refer to mpg on an imperial gallon, which is 1.2 US one. Basically, at their 70 mpg, you have 58 American mpgs.
Of course, kudos to Jeremy, doing his best trying to kill mpg on his Jag, he-he.
So, getting to my point:
12 cyl twin turbo Jag does 819 miles on a tank after 3/4 of the route gas guzzling driving? And still could go some, as it did not halt in Blackpool by itself, it still had some go-juice to go on
My question is: wdf is wrong with gas and cars in this country?
Even better - what kind of trickery they have imposed onto imports that, as soon as they are made for American market, they lose half of their European mpg in a click? I want to see same Jag, made for and sold here, do same!
And those cars were not even the best mpg ones. Brits have van that does 96mpg on imperial, VW has some car that does over a hundred miles.
DON'T FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROK. IF IT'S BROK - FIX RIGHT AWAY.

I get 14.3 out of my 2005 1500 with the 5.3, that is according to the DIC on the dash.
What's the size of a 2002 silverado z71 5.3l gas tank? I'm getting around 500km per tank and i'm going uphill. Altitude for where i am is 593m above sealevel and I travel to some where 672m above sea level. That's a 80m climb. All gravel road, with snow banks slowing me down all the time. I assume I'll get better gas mileage when summer comes around. Plus it'll get better because I'll have air intake, throttlebody spacer, and dual exhaust. Maybe a programmer. So, hopefully someone can do the math, and calculate my MPG. Oh i forgot, 500kilometers = 311 miles.

I had the 05 F150 FX4 with the 5.4 motor. I got a consistnt 12 to 13 MPG but I'm a bit of a lead foot.
It was a good truck though. I wish I still had it, espically when I park at the grocery store!
