    Default 2002 Z71 Automatic Headlights

Is there anyway to make the Headlights work manually like on the 2003? Having them automatically on any time the truck is on at night is a ROYAL PAIN. Will the 2003 switch fit and work(it has a OFF position)?

I don't know if the new switch will fit, but I know that on most gm cars and trucks that if you don't have the car on and the lights are off, and you put the e break on and start it like that the lights won't come on, but that won't help you if you want to drive with them off

Well, if he has no use for the parking brake, he can adjust them so they don't make contact. I'm curious though. Is there a reason outside of leaving the engine running, and parked that you would want to have the lights off? Certainly not to drive like that at night, I hope.

If you just want to sit, and idle with the lights off. Set the parking brake before starting the truck, and they won't come on until you disengage the brake.

We get a lot of these types of questions. On my 2002 Trailblazer you simply have to press the dome light on/off 4 times to get the DRL to turn off.

I like the DRL, so I wouldn't have been interested in trying to disable it in the Avalanche. The wife disabled the auto unlock when the gear selector goes in park. I'd like to disable the auto lock. I hate the fact that I have to unlock my doors to get out. That's one thing I think Ford got right way back when. Pull the inside handle, and the door opens, locked or not.

Shutting off the DTRL is illegal in some states.

I know this sounds stupid, but it is true and if you have them disabled when you go for an inspection you may not pass.

Besides the newer versions are different then the older ones, aren’t they?

The first ones ran on full power and the newer ones run on a lower power, I thought, correct me if I am wrong.

Really, it's illegal? What if the system malfunctions, you won't pass inspection? wow.

I think I misspoke on my last post. Press the domelight on/off button to get the automatic headlights to go on/off, not the same as the DRL.

Studies have shown that cars with DRLs get into fewer wrecks, especially head-on collisions on highways, etc. I remember as a kid there was a stretch of highway going from Kirkland/Bothell to Monroe, WA that was very deadly. They did a test with "headlights on" signs and found that there were fewer wrecks over time.
