i have a 1999 silverado ext. cab with a 4.8 litre engine.
i got a code from my engine that i was having problems with it and i was told that if i take it off and clean it out it will take care of my problem... is this true??
Thanks,
99 silverado driver

My mom had her check engine light come on in her 2001 Chevy Blazer, and when I scanned it came up with the evap canister. We pulled it down and found a charcoal liner or filter in it, we replaced the charcoal and replaced it. I reset the MIL and it never came back on, I don't know if that helps or not.
Cleaning the valve might resolve the code, if a dirty valve is the cause of the code.
Some EVAP codes can be caused by not putting the gas cap on tight.
If you post the actual code (my code list gives a dozen or more different EVAP codes), someone with the right manual may post specific diagnostic information.
