Not sure yet if I just got a dud or not, but I bought a power cord on eBay for my HP/Compaq and the new powercord overheated and melted. They sent me a new one, but it damaged my computer so that it will not charge now. :-(
Dang it, I need this computer! All my work is on it! Soon it will die becuase it won't charge.

I believe its still possible to get your work without it turning on, get a external harddrive case and transfer your harddrive to it, if you have another computer you could pull up your work... I had the same problems on both my old laptop and desktop and it worked perfect for me...

Steve,
So you are saying the laptop won't work with a fresh charged battery or a good power cord without a battery? If so then like Kukini said you can just pull out the hard drive and buy an external case for it. Then you can transfer the data to another laptop or you can just use it as an external drive for your home PC.
