    Default Z71 axle ratio

I recently purchased a 98 Z71 5.7L or 350 to all us non metric old guys, I am pretty sure that the Z71's came standard with a 3.73 gear ratio, is there anyway to check this. the previous owner wasn't much of a gearhead and he basically has no idea.
I know on fords the axle code is located on the vin. and you can check the code online.
Am I able to do this for a chevy?

You can find out by looking at the RPO sticker in your glovebox that has all the codes for the build of your truck. As a suggestion you may take a picture of the sticker with a digital camera and load it on your computer to blow it up then do a Google search for the GM RPO code list for the definitions. Here is a SITE for those codes.

look on the rear diff. there should be a little metal tag that is being held on between two of the bolts holding the diff cover on. that tag should say the ratio on it
