    Default Help with AC issue!!

New here and hoping someone who is more knowledgeable then me can help me out.

I have a 2006 Chevy Tahoe with the bigger V8 (Not sure exactly what liter it is) and my AC for the front will some times work and sometimes it wont. When it does work it works good, but takes a little longer to get started then normal. However, when it is not working the display will show that it is still working, but it will not blow any air at all. The rear air will blow somewhat cold air but not cold enough. I do not have the money to drop a ton of money on this issue so i am hoping that someone may be able to lead me in the right direction.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

p.s. when the front does work it blows cold air just like it always has and it has never made any noises at all.

Can you tell if the compressor is cycling on and off? If so, it's probably a little low on freon. You can buy cans of R-134 freon at you local parts store that will have a gauge on the can so you now how much to add.

You say that is will not blow any air at all, do you mean no air out of any vents, or no cold air? Can you hear the fan turning?

Check to make sure your evaporator isn't clogged up, too. Right off hand, I don't know if your model has a cabin air filter, but check it too, if you have one.

First off thanks for all the reply's...

I noticed a new thing late last night, when it is NOT working, it will not blow any air at all, on any cycle (defrost, heat or cold). Also, i heard a very slight humming noise in the bottom of the engine, so i am thinking that was the compressor trying to work, but for some reason, from the compressor on it wont. I am going to go and buy a can of freon and see if that works, but if anyone has any other ideas from the new information i gave, i would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Jason

    Update:

Well, i went up and bought a can of freon and put the correct amount in, although it did not help the front at all, it did help the back AC to blow a tad colder, not much but when you have none any will help. I am really thinking it is either wiring (which this is what i think it is), or it is the blower since the heater and defrost wont work either. Now the question is, how hard is it to change the switch and blower out of a 06 Tahoe?

It does not blow any air out of any vents on any cycle...heat, defrost or cold. I can hear in the bottom of engine area a slight humming which i believe is the compressor trying to kick on, but i am not positive.

Go to your local parts store or oil change place, like a Jiffy Lube, they should be able to tell you if have a cabin air filter, and where it is located. Some oil change places will even change it for you, for like 20 bucks, which includes the price of the filter and install.

If the fan is not blowing, you either have a bad fan or switch. You can test the fan by hooking 12 volts directly to the leads on the fan. If it comes on, it is fine and your switch is bad. You can test the swicth by unplugging the fan and check for voltage coming out of the wiring harness as you move the switch.
